In Vitro Propagation of Caper (Capparis spinosa L.): A Review

چکیده

Caper (Capparis spinosa L.) is a shrubby plant species recalcitrant to vegetative propagation and generally difficult propagate by seeds. This due the difficulties associated with seed germination, root induction from stem cuttings, hardening. Propagation tissue culture would be good alternative promising approach overcome limitations of conventional propagation. Tissue methods can used for clonal caper plants. Indeed, in many species, micropropagation has played decisive role rapid large-scale production uniform genetically stable also genetic improvement conservation programs. In this review, we first provided an overview on its means propagation, then described different micropropagation, i.e., vitro germination seedling development, nodal segmentation elongated shoots (i.e., microcuttings), adventitious organogenesis. These make it possible all obstacles preventing caper. Thus, most updated information progress made field reported future perspectives are outlined.

Bioactive components of caper (Capparis spinosa L.) from Sicily and antioxidant effects in a red meat simulated gastric digestion.

An increasing body of evidence on the association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and healthy status is being accumulated. Floral buds of Capparis spinosa L. are commonly used in the Mediterranean cuisine as flavoring for meat and other foods. The present study evaluated bioactive components and antioxidant activity of Sicilian capers stabilized in salt. Whereas alpha-tocopherol was...

Isolation and characterization of a lectin with potentially exploitable activities from caper (Capparis spinosa) seeds.

A dimeric 62-kDa lectin exhibiting a novel N-terminal amino acid sequence was purified from caper (Capparis spinosa) seeds. The purification protocol involved anion-exchange chromatography, cation-exchange chromatography and, finally, gel filtration by FPLC on Superdex 75. Approx. 100-fold purification was achieved. The haemagglutinating activity of the lectin, which was stable in the pH range ...

The discovery of Capparis spinosa L. (Capparidaceae) in the Yanghai Tombs (2800 years b.p.), NW China, and its medicinal implications.

Seed clumps of Capparis spinosa L. together with shoots, leaves and fruits of Cannabis sativa L. were unearthed in the Yanghai Tombs, Turpan District in Xinjiang, China. This is the first time that plant remains of Capparis spinosa have been discovered in China and the eastern part of Central Asia. Based on the joint occurrence of Capparis spinosa and Cannabis sativa, and the pharmacological va...

In Vivo and in Vitro Hepatoprotective Potential of Kaempferol, a Flavone Glycoside from Capparis Spinosa

This study was designed to investigate in-vivo and in-vitro hepatoprotective activity of kaempferol isolated from Capparis spinosa L. in CCl4 intoxicated rat. Kaempferol is a bioflavonoid reported with antioxidant, antiinflammatory and antiapototic effects which can prevent CCl4 induced hepatic lipid peroxidative damage mediated by oxidative free radical. Kaempferol was isolated from C. spinosa...

Optimised method for the analysis of phenolic compounds from caper (Capparis spinosa L.) berries and monitoring of their changes during fermentation.

In this work, an ad hoc method to identify and quantify polyphenols from caper berries was developed on high-performance liquid chromatography/electrospray ionisation source/mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS). The method was applied during fermentation carried out with Lactobacillus pentosus OM13 (Trial S) and without starter (Trial C). A total of five polyphenols were identified. All samples cont...
